THE TREASURY OF PALOC ETHNOCULTURE

Study Repository, Spectacle Repository from the Collections of the Palóc Museum

The Spectacle Repository, opened in 2012, displays the most beautiful pieces of the Palóc Museum’s collection. Most of the artworks exhibited here are part of the museum’s older material that survived the devastation of the two World Wars: unique pieces of folk art from the late 19th century and the early 20th century. All important branches of ethnography (apparel, home textiles, ceram-ics, furniture, shepherd art, household items, food, toys, holidays, folk religion) are represented, and in addition to displaying the Palóc folk life themes, objects and documents related to the history of the former county seat, Balassagyarmat, as well as requisites associated with Imre Madách and Kálmán Mikszáth, are on display here. The touchscreen monitors allow visitors to get further information about the objects, and to gain an insight into the digital records and storage techniques of the museum.
